Still walking…

1-7-25 Carrión de los Condes

We're still walking... Normally, we could look back on the days between June 11 and July 1, remembering very specific things we have done. This year, we have walked. Besides our rest days, we've walked every day, expending our energy one step at a time. We've visited the same places each day; churches, café-bars, supermarkets, restaurants, and the place we sleep each night. We have one goal each day, to keep walking.
Tomorrow is the half-way point both in mileage and number of days!
We spent our last Sunday rest day in Castrojeriz. Once a booming town, it's now dwindling. One of the 3 churches is no longer in operation, instead it is now a museum comparing the stories of medieval and modern pilgrims. Of course, it's sad to see one of these amazing churches as a museum, but we did enjoy the exhibit, which began with the Bible's text of the creation of man with images projected on the vaulted ceiling. Another section explored the reasons for pilgrimage, and another showed images of things we had already passed on the road, stirring our emotions as we recalled the journey. It is mundane and surreal at the same time, this walk. Just like life. We walk on, thankful for the one who walked this earth for us.
