Unite us all who own thee
As we celebrated the birth of our nation yesterday it was painful to reflect on the division that has resurfaced in our country during recent months. Last night we climbed to our RV roof in hopes of viewing fireworks. We could see a few in the distance but the almost full moon was much more prominent in our July 4, 2020 sky. The moon was beautiful, but we were keenly aware that this Independence Day was not normal, just as this year has been far from common.
Besides the struggles of COVID-19 and racial disharmony and unrest, as Christians we have been saddened by the disunity in the church. It is no longer so easy to overlook our differences of opinion since they affect the way we work out our common life as believers in Christ as well as the way we interact with the world around us. The words of a hymn our congregation sang today were very apt:
One Lord, in one great Name
Unite us all who own thee;
Cast out our pride and shame
That hinder to enthrone thee;
The world has waited long,
Has travailed long in pain;
To heal its ancient wrong,
Come, Prince of Peace, and reign.

A brief update on our life
Esther and Mel continue to stay home throughout the week. One daily joy has been our RV Park swimming pool. We are the first ones there in the morning and usually have an hour to ourselves! The rest of the day we stay out of the heat, finding plenty of projects to do. We have also been able to ride bike on a few cooler mornings.
Ed continues his routine. He completed a May class on the Pentateuch (first 5 books of the Old Testament). He is currently working on his summer Hebrew translation project. He has a class coming up in July called Liturgical Practice. He will learn about conducting funerals and weddings, as well as study various liturgies.
We enjoy our daily times of prayer and reading God's Word as a family and with our church fellowship. As we are reminded each day to trust in Christ in all things we can continue forward despite discouragement that threatens to weigh us down.
