Things seemed pretty normal then...
My previous blog update was on February 22nd. Things seemed pretty normal then. Since then the world has been turned upside down. We are all suffering in different ways. Some, especially the elderly, may be feeling isolated and lonely. Others are busy and lonely. Others are overwhelmed and lonely. Others are surrounded by the same people all the time and wishing for a chance for peace and quiet. Around the world, relationships are changing. We don't know how to interact with one another anymore. We feel trapped, separated, stuck. In these, our circumstances, God speaks to us through His word.
Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Come, behold the works of the LORD,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Ed continues with his studies. He will be taking his Hebrew final next week. May 2nd he will begin the summer semester of Hebrew. By the end of July, his two years of study in the biblical languages will be completed! He is currently working on papers for a class on the 39 Articles of Religion. The April class was rescheduled, to be held in July. His next class will be towards the end of May. He continues to work a morning shift at Home Depot.
Esther and Mel have adapted to a new lifestyle. Esther's school has done a good job of providing a structured online learning environment. Our family continues to go to bed early and wake up early. Mel is now doing a small load of laundry in our bathtub each day and hanging it on the drying rack. We have not felt comfortable using the RV Park laundry, which is a close, confined space. We order groceries online and Ed picks them up. We have gotten out for a few bike rides and drives, but mostly we do not leave the RV park. We are thankful for space here to walk each day.
Life is shaken up for all of us these days. We think of all our friends and family often. Drop us a line, let us know how you are navigating these uncertain times.
With hope in God,
The Fruins
