Good Lord, deliver us

Throughout the summer our church has been working through the Litany during Sunday morning worship services. It has been very helpful to look at specific ways we ask the Lord for his deliverance. This morning we looked at the phrase: In all time of our tribulation; in all time of our prosperity; in the hour of death, and in the day of judgment, Good Lord, deliver us. As, I listened to the sermon I was reminded to count my blessings, which are many. It is all too easy to focus on the things which trouble us while neglecting to fix our minds on that which is above. When we do this, we can miss the blessings God has given us, and wallow in self-pity over minor, temporary hardships. As the Litany describes, life often contains times of tribulation and prosperity. Sometimes tribulations are very heavy, sometimes we receive great prosperity. Common to all is the reality of death and judgment. Good Lord, deliver us. Thank God for his Son who has given us the promise of deliverance!

The summer has been full! Esther and Mel were able to visit with all the grandparents and cousins as well as many friends. In June they took a trip to Arizona and in July traveled to Wisconsin. They enjoyed traveling through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas. They saw many beautiful sights along the way.

Upon our return to Texas, we were treated to a visit from our college friend Daniel Hough, his wife Sarah and their beautiful family. They had recently arrived in the States from Paraguay where they serve as missionaries. We spent a great weekend recounting old memories and making new ones!

Ed remained here all summer. He has not been out of the vicinity of Dallas since we arrived almost a year ago! His studies continued over the summer. He is currently finishing the coursework for summer Greek. This weekend he is taking a class with Bishop Ray Sutton called Church and Sacraments. This is his last summer course. Fall classes will begin on September 13. His job at Home Depot is going well and we are thankful that he has a relatively stable schedule.

Esther will start Kindergarten in a week. As you may guess she is excitedly counting down the days!

Thanks for your continued prayers. We are thankful to you all.
