Reason for a blog

Those who have known us for a long time may remember we had a website in the early 2000s. We used it to post updates regarding our ministry endeavors. Our website was melonheadexpeditions.com. The name Melonhead comes from our names: Mel n Ed. We had a cute little guy as our logo. Our goal at the time was to work in the French Alps at Camp of the Peaks. Well, God had different plans for us. Instead of learning French and spending our time ministering in the French Alps, we have spent the past 17 years in Janesville, WI. The majority of our time in Janesville we had the privilege to learn and grow at River Hills Community Church under the ministry of Pastor John Swanson. During this time Melissa was the church secretary and Ed served in various ministry roles as small group leader, mission team member and elder. Our time in Janesville has not always been easy, nor always what we wanted. But, we thank God for this time and he has used it mightily in our lives.

Through a series of events, we met Rev. Jim Dallman early in 2016. Jim quickly became a friend, and although we didn't know him long, he was instrumental in pushing Ed towards pastoral ministry. Shortly after we met Jim, he learned he had cancer. Sadly, Jim passed away about a year ago. Before his passing he met with Ed a few times, more than once emphasizing his idea that Ed should pursue seminary. Ed was not completely convinced but he did travel to Dallas to attend a conference of the Reformed Episcopal Church. This conference and his experience there was the catalyst that moved Ed to apply to Cranmer Theological House.

Since his acceptance we have been moving towards getting Ed through seminary. One of the things Jim suggested was that we make a web page with "Ed's commentaries about his studies along with Melissa's and Esther's activities." Thus, with this blog we hope to keep in touch with you, our friends and family. We hope it will remind you to pray for us as we move towards the goal of completing seminary and ministering in a local church.
